I've never owned a carpet cleaner. Only once have I used one and it was rented from a local store. I was rather excited to review the Hoover MaxExtract60 Carpet Cleaner. Every room in my home is carpeted except for the kitchen and the dirt and mud that gets tracked in is astounding.
The carpet cleaner arrived in a large box and it was disassembled inside. Assembly was fairly easy and the only tool needed was a screwdriver. I had to read the instruction booklet a few times before operating the machine because there was information in it about extra accessories that weren't included with this particular model.
Thes MaxExtract® deep cleaner is designed to thoroughly clean carpets and rugs. It removes water, dirt and grime with pressurized cleaning, and has heated drying for a fast dry time. A double chamber nozzle power washes surfaces with even suction across a wide path. The Patented Hoover® SpinScrub® brushes gently loosen dirt and clean all sides of carpet and upholstery fibers, with an adjustable speed control for various floor surfaces, including a Spill Pick-Up mode so you don't scrub in spills.
•MaxExtract® DualV® Nozzle Technology - Pulls up a lot of dirty water so your floors dry fast and you'll be back to living on those deep-cleaned floors quickly.
•Pressurized Edge-to-Edge Cleaning - a wall of pressurized water that loosens and lifts stubborn stains with constant and relentless spray.
•SpinScrub® 60 - counter-rotating brushes engineered to surround carpet fibers, removing dirt at every angle. It's like treating your carpet to a deep, massaging salon shampoo.
•Heated Cleaning - powerful motor with forced heated air to help speed dry time.
•Auto Conversion Tools - conveniently positioned where they should be - right at your fingertips.
•SmartTanks™ System - separate tanks for clean and dirty water, so you can easily fill, empty and rinse each tank individually!
Includes:
•16 oz Bottle of 2X CleanPlus™ Carpet Cleaner & Deodorizer
•9' Clear Active Hose
The first step to use the carpet cleaner is adding water and Carpet Cleaner & Deodorizer. I liked that the cleaning formula was included. A container holds the water in one chamber and the cleaning solution in the other.
I've cleaned my living room and hallway carpet with the Hoover MaxExtract60 Carpet Cleaner and had positive results. I was pretty surprised with how much dirty water turned out in the end. It was obvious just how filthy my carpets were! The machine, when running, is somewhat loud. Next time I'll have to use it when the hubby isn't watching TV. The cord is quite lengthy, so I was able to clean my entire living room and hallway without having to worry about not reaching needed areas or not having enough cord length.
There is a carry handle and it's not overly heavy but you have to put some muscle into pushing the machine back and forth. My floors weren't sopped with water and they dried quickly. I didn't feel like I was walking on marshland after I cleaned the carpets. When I used the carpet cleaner, I could see which areas had been cleaned compared to which ones hadn't. My floor was visibly cleaner looking and some stains were removed.
I used the upholstery tool on my couch and again noticed a positive clean. The spin brushes get to the heart of my carpet so it cleans deep down, not just at the surface. I don't have much to compare to when talking about this carpet cleaner versus others, but the positives of the Hoover MaxExtract60 Carpet Cleaner definitely outweigh any cons I've noticed. It seems to be a solid, durable machine that will make my carpet last longer.

I could definitely use a carpet cleaner, I'm always borrowing my moms. I am shocked everytime I clean it and seeing the filthy water!
Oh man I'm so jealous! We have a great hoover, but I would love a new one! Great review my dear!!
@Nichol, haha I'm the same way. Always borrowing someones. I should just invest and get myself one. But I wonder if this would be more cost effective than having a professional clean my carpets?
What a well written review! I am in serious need of a carpet cleaner, I go out to the supermarket every 3 months to rent one. Hoping Santa brings me one this year :)
I like that the cleaner and water are in different reservoirs too!
These are such neat machines! My mom has something similar and when she first tried it out, went cleaning crazy on all the spots on our carpets. LOL
I could totally use something like this!!!
