I work as a 911 Dispatcher. It is my job to dispatch fire, sheriff, police and ambulance, among many other job requirements. When I first heard of Feuerwear, I was very intrigued because their bags, belts and wallets are made from recycled fire hoses. To have a bag that was made of material used in lifesaving situations would be somewhat of an honor.
Every Feuerwear product is a one-of-a-kind piece. Before the hoses are received by the company, they were used extensively by firefighters for many years. They were dragged through soot, grease and mud, in extreme heat and fire, and had to transport thousands of cubic meters of water.
The white material on the outside of my shoulder bag has the word "GEPRUFT". I looked the word up and it's German for certified or inspected. All Feuerwear production is done in Europe and the fire hoses are not from America, so the words on the bags may be unfamiliar to some. The front side of my shoulder bag shows signs of dirt and grease. All materials are cleaned thoroughly before the bags and accessories are put together, but there's still signs of built-in grease and soot. It's supposed to look like that and that's part of the individuality of the bag. I've had a couple of people approach me and tell me that I should get a new bag or clean this one because it looks worn out on the front. It's then that I proudly tell them the story behind the bag.
I adore my Feuerwear shoulder bag for the design, for the history it tells, and for the uniqueness of it.
