Silver Dolphin Books publishes activity, novelty, and educational nonfiction books for preschoolers to 12-year-olds. Their books are interactive and educational. I've done a few reviews and giveaways for them in the past and have always been pleased with the quality and educational impact of their books.  I think they'd make a wonderful Christmas present for a child, as fun and learning are combined.

3D Explorer: Planet Earth is a book we most recently acquired.  Packed with astonishing photographs and intriguing facts, this 3-D Explorer book also features five dramatic pop-up scenes with see-through layers that provide a one-of-a-kind glimpse into our planet's inner workings, including a spectacular volcanic eruption and a depiction of life in the arctic. Kids will discover Earth's early history and learn about its constantly changing surface, landmasses, and extreme weather.  3-D Explorer: Planet Earth is full of interesting information and bright illustrations.  The pop-up scenes are amazing.  It is a hardback book that doesn't stay open on its own, so the kids have to keep it held open to read the facts and see the illustrations.  Other than that, it's one of the most comprehensive books about Earth's history that's geared towards older children.

Another book my children received was Amazing X-Rays: Pets.  It offers kids a new perspective on cats, dogs, and the rest of the world's most popular pets. The 16 X-rays and built-in light box included in this imaginative book give kids tons of opportunities to see what's going on under an animal's skin. They'll learn about bones, muscles, and other inner structures that influence the way animals move, eat, and grow. From common household pets to more exotic creatures like the bearded dragon and the hedgehog, Amazing X-rays: Pets offers a complete picture of the domestic animal kingdom--and reveals the way each animal's bones tell the stories of its life.

This book is chock-full of information about the insides of pets and x-rays.  There's not a lot of pages, but there's a lot to learn. Included with the book is sixteen real x-rays and a light box.  Using the book's unique built-in light box, curious readers can clip on one of the 16 included acetate x-rays to examine close-up. They'll see the kinds of details real doctors see, and in the process, begin to understand animal anatomy and the skeletal system. Throughout the colorful spreads in the book, junior radiologists will find engaging, entertaining text and a wealth of x-ray images, photographs, and illustrations to guide them in their studies.  This book is both interactive and informative.  All six of my kids have used this book to see x-rays up close and to learn about domesticated animals.  I've even looked through it and was given a refresher on information I learned while in school.  The artful conception of the book and hardback covers make it visually appealing.  There's even an envelope built in to the book so that the x-rays can be stored in and kept from being bent.

I'm a big believer in providing reading material for children.  I think books can help further educate and broaden the mind.  The books from Silver Dolphin books are engaging, educational, and impressive.
