Nature Pavilion - Review and Giveaway

My kids, especially the boys, have liked science and activity kits ever since I can remember.  They enjoy the hands-on experience and the end results.  Nature Pavilion, a company that sells nature and science gifts and toys, has products to suit curious children of all ages.  I recently received a Quartz Mining Kit from Nature Pavilion for review and Logan was eager to dig into it.

The KidzLabs 4M Quartz Mining Kit has all the supplies needed to dig and excavate your own quartz. 
Contents of the kit include:
1 plaster block with 3 natural quartz crystals (approximately 2-4cm long) embedded.
1 special digging tool
1 brush
1 magnifier
1 certificate of authenticity
1 metal wire for mounting
1 pouch bag
1 set of detailed instructions with fun facts

Logan first set out his work area on the kitchen table with newspaper laid down to keep messes at a minimum.  With the digging tool, he chipped away at the plaster block and used the brush to clean the quartz once they were located.  With the magnifier, he was able to get an up-close look at the natural minerals he discovered.  After locating the quartz, Logan read the fun facts to learn more about them and placed the minerals in the pouch bag. 

The Certificate of Authencity gives the name of the quartz, category, chemical formula, colour, solubility information, and more.  It is also signed by an authority of the KidzLabs Mining Council, has a certificate number, and is dated. 

Logan has former experience with excavation kits for kids and was just as happy with this one as the previous kits.  One thing that he really liked about this one above the others is the Certificate of Authencity and the pouch to carry the quartz in.

Because the quartz mining kit has small parts, it is not recommended for small children.  The quartz crystal also has some sharp points and edges so they should be handled carefully.
