Create with Clay Haunted House - Review and Giveaway

Halloween is one of my most favorite times of the year.  I love everything about it, from the costumes and trick-or-treating to the scary movies and decorating.  Creativity for Kids has craft kits and art supplies to make and craft decorations for Halloween. Or a rainy day. Or a special day. Or any day.

Creativity for Kids has come out with a new craft project for Halloween, the Create with Clay Haunted House.  This fun family craft will make a spook-tacular indoor decoration.  The embossed haunted house comes with washable paint and air-dry clay, along with other supplies, to make and create your way.  I set out on Sunday with my boys and watched them craft. 

The kit comes with a cardboard embossed haunted house. With it were three colors of paint - purple, white, and black. There was also a paintbrush, glitter pen, glue pen, clay carving tool, purple felt, and seven different colors of air-dry clay. Adam took on the task of decorating the haunted house while Logan made figures out of the clay.  Both boys were able to do most of the work themselves, with little assistance from me.

Adam was able to quickly paint the haunted house with the paintbrush and the paints applied easily.  He did mention that he wished there was more than one paint brush included in the kit because it was hard to keep the paints from mixing on the brush, even after washing the brush and patting it on a paper towel.  The paint is non-toxic and washable.  Thank goodness because quite the mess was made.  Clean-up wasn't a mess though, because the paints and clay pieces came off my table easily.  After the paints dried, Adam further decorated the haunted house with the glitter pen.

The air-dry clay was fairly simple to work with.  The instruction guide gave ideas on how to make things like tombstones, trees, ghosts, and more.  By tearing pieces of the clay apart and molding it, Logan created a Halloween scene to go with the haunted house.  He used the clay carving tool to makes lines for the pumpkins and mummy.

After all of the pieces were dry, we set them on a ceramic plate and made a tabletop decoration with it.  The crafted clay pieces can fall over until they're dry, so it's important not to move them or mess with them too much until then.  The roof of the haunted house comes off for the clay pieces to be stored in until the next Halloween or trinkets can be set inside.  Crafting and painting with the Craft with Clay Haunted House was a relaxing and fun project for me and the boys.  They're proud of their handiwork and so am I.
