This Saturday I will be hosting a Bridesmaids viewing party at my campsite for me and a few of my girlfriends. It's going to be a fun-filled time viewing the movie that releases on DVD today, eating snack cakes, and drinking adult beverages. Some of us are even going for the gusto and wearing bridesmaids dresses.
The movie centers around thirty-something Annie (Kristen Wiig) who's hit a rough patch but finds her life turned completely upside down when she takes on the Maid of Honor role in her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. In way over her head but determined to succeed, Annie leads a hilarious hodgepodge of bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to the big event.
I pre-viewed the movie yesterday with my husband and nephew. It is rated R, with a lot of laughs and romantic situations. I'll post about the official Bridesmaids viewing party and guest opinions about the movie in a few days.
Yellow Tail Wines announced today that it is partnering with Universal Studios Home Entertainment and NBCUniversal Digital Distribution to declare today, September 20th, as National Bridesmaid's Day in celebration of the breakout comedy that releases today.
Here's some interesting tidbits for you:
The role of a bridesmaid originated centuries ago when friends of the bride would dress the same as the bride in order to confuse evil spirits who were ready to snatch the bride away from her intended.
The phrase "often a bridesmaid, but never a bride" originated from a mouthwash advertisement from 1924.
The universally known bridesmaid's curse: "Thrice a bridesmaid, never a bride" can be broken by being a bridesmaid seven times.
Nearly six percent of bridesmaids confess to having been thrown out of the wedding party, and close to thirty percent admit they don't like the person the bride is marrying.
National Bridesmaids Day is the day for every past, present, and future bridesmaid to have their own day to shine. Bridesmaids can "like" [yellow tail] on Facebook at www.facebook.com/discoveryellowtail and be entered to win an all-expense-paid trip for two to Hollywood where they can enjoy a Star-For-A-Day experience. A downloadable party pack is also available on Facebook, where exclusive behind-the-scenes content may also be seen.
