Multiply on the Fly - Children's Book Review

Book Synopsis:

From pirate bugs to walking sticks to sturdy soldier ants, children will love learning about the world's insects in Multiply on the Fly.  This rhythmic book teaches multiplication in a way that will make children "bug" you for more.  Teeming with fun facts, readers will multiply with a variety of insects, including daring dragonflies, hungry honeybees, and lovely Luna moths.  The "For Creative Minds" section in the back of the book keeps the fun rolling with facts about the insect life cycle, matching insect activities, and multiplication guides to make anyone a multiplication master.

My Review:

If your child has difficulty with multiplication, this book may be a helpful guide.  Each page features illustrations of insects and a cute rhyme that correlates with the insect in a mathematical manner, and a multiplication question is asked.  The "For Creative Minds" section in the back of the book is very informative.  It has a multiplication table and gives helpful instructions on how to answer the multiplication questions that were asked in the book.  It also gives intelligence on insect body parts and life cycles.   Multiply on the Fly is two-parts, combining wisdom about insects and multiplication.

Multiply on the Fly is a Fall 2011 release from Sylvan Dell Publishing.

I love that it incorporates science and math. I like that it helps learn multiplication using other means because it seems these days in school my kids have been taught the times tables over and over for memorization. Hardly anything broader so they can do multiplication in their heads and on the fly instead of trying to remember their times tables. Here at home we have always tried to do little projects and quizzes so the kids have a more expanded knowledge and this book would be perfect for my daughter who will be my next one to test the multiplication waters!
