Monkey Quest - Review and Giveaway

My son, Adam, can't do much right now.  He's on crutches with pins in his toes.  The normal things that a lot of kids get to do in the summer are off-limits to him right now.  He's been spending time on the computer, playing games.  One game that he has become acquainted with is Monkey Quest. 

Monkey Quest is a free online virtual game from Nickelodeon.  Monkeys are the main characters and there are several quests to complete in the land of Ook.  It is possible to buy special items using Nickcash or to purchase a membership to access special trails, but these are entirely optional and are in no way necessary to play Monkey Quest.  Adam received a Nickcash card which gave him the choice to receive a three month membership or 2500 Nickcoins.  He went with the membership so he can have more access to special trails.

There are a lot of things to do on Monkey Quest and it overwhelmed me a little.  However, Adam caught on pretty easily.  You can create your up to three different monkeys on your account, each with its own unique hairstyle, color, and facial expression.  The name of your monkey is chosen through a list of already made words.  Adam's main monkey is named Daniel Truth Trap.  There's the option to make friends and chat with them but all chat is restricted to a "white list" dictionary to prevent foul language from taking place.

In the land of Ook, players embark on quests, battle monsters, accumulate skill points, group together with other monkeys to get past obstacles.  From what I've seen of Monkey Quest, it's a safe online environment for kids to play.  Adam is currently on level four and enjoys playing.  I'm not sure that younger kids would get the gist of Monkey Quest, but I think pre-teens would get lots of amusement from it.

Hurry and head to Toys 'R Us before August 8th to receive an exclusive virtual item and $15 of gameplay on Monkey Quest by purchasing a $25 Nickelodeon Game Card.  The game card has to be purchased in-store at Toys 'R Us and the special offer must be redeemed online by 8/8/11.
