Benny wants a pet-a dog or a cat. You know, the kind of pet every else has. But other kids don't have his mom. She likes to do things differently. So Benny doesn't know what to expect when he first opens the pet carrier. Certainly not that his neighbors will want to kick his family out of town-he just got here! And he was just about to make the baseball team, too. Will he fight for his pet or back down?
My Review:
Although I haven't fully read it, I've had a chance to skim through Not Just For Breakfast Anymore. From the parts I've read, this seems like an engaging book for kids in the 9-13 age category. It is currently being read by my 10 year old step-daughter who seems to enjoy it thus far. My 12 year old son, Logan, engaged himself reading it and gave a pretty detailed account of the book. Be forewarned that he may be giving some of the plot away, but this is what Logan had to say in his words:
This story is about a boy called Benny who wanted a dog or cat for his birthday but instead he got a pig. At first he didn't want the pig, but he later does. When he told his friend, Major, that he got a pig for his birthday out loud, everyone heard him say it. Benny was embarrassed so he said he was sick and stayed home for a few days, then it was spring break. The health department wouldn't let him keep the pig but he kep trying. Later on in the story, Benny's mom and dad had a fight and he blamed it on the pig and the pig got off the leash and ran out the door to the neighbor's yard. He went after the pig and found it later in a puddle. He got the pig out and they both fell asleep where his pig was found. He got home and his parents were worreid about him. A little further in the story, him and his parents and friends help him with petitions to help him keep his pig. They fight against the health board. A whole bunch of people show up to help get them to keep the pig, They win and get to keep the pig. I liked this story a lot. It was funny and had fun things going on. It also showed how a pet can be a friend, even if it's just a pig.
I received book for review from author. The opinions within this post are of my own and I was not influenced in any way. Please do your own research before purchasing products. Your opinions and results may differ.
