Fraction Formula Game - Review and #Giveaway

Educational Insights, a manufacturer of educational toys and games, has provided many hours of play to my children. Educational Insights products include subject-specific classroom products, teacher resources, educational toys, and games. Their products are designed by seasoned educators and parents who know that, first and foremost, learning must be fun.  Right now they are sponsoring a California Dreamin' Sweepstakes on their Facebook page for the chance to win a trip to Los Angeles to view a live taping of Jeopardy.  The lastest review and giveaway I'm doing for this upstanding company is for the Fraction Formula Game.

It's a race to "1" with this four-player fraction game!

1.  Draw a card and find the corresponding fizzy fraction tile
2.  Drop the tile into our cylinder
3.  "Hold" if you think you're as close to 1 as you'll get without going over or draw another card if you think you can get closer by adding another fraction tile
4.  The player who gets closest to 1 wins the round!

Game includes:  4 tubes, 52 fraction cards, 20 scoring cards, and a teacher guide

Fractions are not a strong suit for any of my kids.  Having a game that focus on fractions is a unique approach to getting kids more excited about this area of math.  In the game, players take turns taking a card from the top of the deck and looking at the fraction on it.  They then take the fizzy fraction tile and drop it in their cylinder.  On each turn, a player may choose whether to take a card or "Hold".  Once all players have said "hold", the round is over.  Different points are added to scores depending on how close the players got to the number 1.  Once four rounds have been played, points are totaled and a winner is declared.

I'm not sure at this point whether my kids are more proficient in fractions since playing this game, but I know they are becoming more understanding of fractions and how they work.  The kids strategize while playing, trying to get close or right at the number 1.  The game is set for four players and it's not always possible to get that many people together to play.  When there are four kids together that want to play, they seem to have a good time.
