I've heard of being sued over a lot of things, but I've never heard of being sued by a school for the cost of books. That can now be checked off my list of unheard, unbelievable things.
I got a letter in the mail today from a local lawyer acting on behalf of my daughter's school. If I don't respond within 30 days with payment, they will start with court proceedings to collect my money.
I know the state is in dire straits and the school deserves to get paid just like the rest of them in the long line of those wanting my money. But seriously, threatening to sue over $11 ??
(Yes, you read that right. One Washington and one Hamilton). Now I've seen it all!
I didn't even know I owed $11. A simple reminder letter would've sufficed.

Wow that is horrible....I'd march my butt right up there and throw it in their faces, and let them know a letter would have been just fine.
I would take it to them all in pennies, unrolled!!! They are asses!!!
I'm like the other 2 ladies. I'd figure out a smartass way to get them their money. Would be just another reason why I would dislike my daughter's school.
i wonder how much the school paid the LAWYER to collect the $11.00?
That is insane. It would cost too much in court fees to recoup over 11.00 good grief
Are you effin' kidding me?!! Having that precious lawyer draft that letter cost more than $11!!
What an utter total waste of resources, not to mention that they're ASSHOLES. There, I said it.
holy crap that is crazy!
Yeah a letter would have been nice to least give you a chance to pay..
That is absurd - and over such a small amount! My little sister went to high school in IL (wait - I did, too, I keep forgetting that since it was eons ago!) and she had to buy ALL her books each semester in PUBLIC school. This in a school district where my parent's annual property taxes are about 26K a year. Ridiculous!
WHAT the heck!!!!
