Goosebumps: The Blob That Ate Everyone - DVD Review and Giveaway

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year and I'm a huge fan of scary movies. The two teenage girls are sometimes allowed to watch scary movies with me, but I don't let the four youngest because I don't feel they are old enough yet.

One way to give my kids the feel of thrills and chills without outright guts and gore is by letting them read Goosebumps books and watch the shows. R.L. Stine, the creator of Goosebumps, has been writing the bone-chilling books since 1992. With the exception of Emma, all of my kids have read a numerous amount of his books. I've even read a couple of them myself.



My kids recently got to watch Goosebumps: The Blob That Ate Everyone on DVD. In this DVD, released in September 2010, are three episodes that might give kids a tinge of the creeps, but won't downright scare the bejeezus out of them. My two boys especially liked the DVD and they already have plans of watching it with friends on Halloween.

I think tweens and teens will appreciate the "scare" factor that each episode contains. Smaller children may get a little frightened by the ghosts, ghouls, and monsters.

Episode 1: The Blob That Ate Everyone
Twelve-year-old Zach Beauchamp's dream is to be a famous horror writer - even though he hasn't gotten over his fear of the dark. He's just written his scariest story ever about a giant pink, oozing, wet blob that terrorizes the neighborhood, swallowing up everything in sight. But when Zack starts typing his spooky story on the old typewriter he found, every hair-raising word begins to come true.

Episode 2: My Hairiest Adventure
Larry Boyd is having a bad day. He's been chased by dogs, his band sounds pathetic, and his allergies seem to be getting worse. It's not just a bad day, it's a bad hair day...suddenly he is growing thick, long hair on his arms and legs. Even more troubling, his friends seem to be disappearing. Larry knows they never should have used that old bottle of Instant-Tan. Could that have something to do with these strange occurences? Can Hairy Larry get to the bottom of this before he ends up like the rest of his friends?

Episode 3: Piano Lessons Can Be Murder
When Jerry finds a dusty old piano in the basement of his new house, his parents offer to pay for lessons. Taking piano seems like a cool idea if it means he'll be able to jam with his cute next-door neighbor. But there's something strange about Jerry's piano teacher, Dr. Shreek. He is really creepy. What's more, Jerry begins receiving nightly visits from a terrifying ghost who warns him about the music school. When Jerry stumbles upon a secret room at Shreek's school it is time for him to face the music.
