Discount School Supply - Review and Giveaway - SS&E #16

My kids like to do things with arts and crafts and tend to keep their projects for quite some time. I like to see their creativity at work and always hold their handmade creations near and dear.

Discount School Supply has lots of fun arts & crafts for kids to do, as well as manipulatives, furniture, and dramatic play. And, of course, the name alone spells out one thing they sell: school supplies. Discount School Supply produced its first catalog in 1985 and has since grown to become a direct-marketing leader in the early childhood school supply market. The majority of their supplies are geared towards younger children, but there are some geared towards older kids as well.






Armed with Colorations Fabric Markers, Colorations Fabric Paint Pens, and Canvas Lunch Bags from Discount School Supply, I gathered my kids and a couple others together last weekend and let them get busy creating lunch bags for the school season.

The Fabric Markers includes 2 each of the following 12 colors: black, blue, brown, gray, green, magenta, orange, red, spruce, turquoise, violet and yellow. With the Fabric Paint Pens there are 4 each of 6 colors: blue, green, orange, purple, red and yellow.

It seemed that each kid had their specific preference as to which they liked the best, the pens or the markers. My sister and I even created canvas lunch bags ourselves so we could see how well the pens and markers applied to the bags. The canvas bags themselves were made of canvas, of course. Each one had a velcro closure so things do not fall out. The bags also stand up easily on their own and do not topple over.

The Fabric Markers were easier for the littler kids to use and not as messy. The markers are permanent so we had to be careful not to get it on anything other than the bags themselves. The Fabric Paint Pens seemed to be more colorful than the markers. The paint came out with ease and the tips were fine enough so that detail could be added.







The kids' creations were not perfect by any artist's standards, but they were their own masterpieces and each kid was super proud of what they made. Each kid has a different purpose for their canvas lunch bags. Some are actually going to use them as lunch bags for daycare and school. Others are using them to carry their trinkets and treasures in. Whatever the reason is, we all agree that the bags are unique as the kids are and it was a fun art project.
