Teen Cyberbullying Investigated - Book Review & Giveaway

Book Synopsis:

My Review:

Although this book is geared mostly towards teens, I got a lot of useful information out of it myself. I've not personally been the target of cyberbullying, but I have seen where it happens even with adults. I follow many blogs and it seems that, even as grown adults, there is the notion that we are invincible and can say what we want regardless of other people's feelings. The Internet is a place where we can express our thoughts, opinions, and feelings. But there's a fine line between expressing yourself and downright being mean.

Once I picked up this book, it was hard to put it down. It is full of facts and statistics, but it's much more than that. This is a must-read for every teen who has access to the Internet. In fact, I recommend it for anyone who uses the Internet. What we say and put on web pages can be seen by anyone at anytime. What we do by cell phone can be spread like wildfire if put in the wrong hands. We must stop and think about what we're saying and doing before there are consequences to be paid.

This book gives examples of court cases that have been the result of cyberbullying. What I like is that it not only gives examples of what happened in cases, but it also gives discussion questions for you to think about how you would react in the situation and how you would decide if you were the judge. It even goes so far as to let readers know what the people involved in the court cases are doing now and how their lives have been affected.

Some of the language in this book is shocking and profane. However, it's not in there as such for entertainment purposes. It is like that to show the direct quotes from the teens involved and to present a meaningful study of cyberbullying.

Just because you have the right to free speech does not necessarily mean that you should overstep those boundaries. My teenage girls read this book as well and were both surprised and appalled at the behavior of some of the people. It was a real eye-opener as to the things people do, the consequences and battles involved, and the rights that individuals have. This book is a wealth of information and I highly recommend it.
