I'm a guilty party of using plastic baggies for food and storage. With an effort of going green, I am trying to now use products that do not create a lot of waste. I want my children to grow up in a friendly environment and I feel it is important to teach them the necessary steps to become more "earth-friendly".

Blog Hop - Favorite Kid Photo

I love to capture moments through photos. It was hard to choose just one favorite kid photo because I have lots of great pictures of my kids, as well as my nieces and nephews. This photo, one of my favorites, was taken in early July at the campground. My son sat down to read his comic book. Shortly after, my great-niece took great interest in what he was doing and asked him to read to her. He was so patient with reading aloud to her and answering her many questions in regards to the book and she enjoyed the story time.

1. I will be able to take my children to the local Kid's Fair on Saturday. A grocery store is sponsoring this fair and I think my children will have a great time. 2. I can relax. There will be no stress about what to pack or what to wear. There will be no worrying about whether or not I make a fool of myself in front of strangers.

3. We can finally take the boat out on the river for the first time this summer. We'll be getting together with friends on Sunday to enjoy a boat ride.

4. I can check out all the great features that Cozi has to offer. I first heard about it today and gave it a quick skim. Seems like a great site and I'd like to look further into it.

5. I can keep my emails in check. I do not have the luxury of a laptop and I subscribe to many newsletters. If I go more than a couple of days without checking my email, I tend to have a lot and get far behind on reading them.

6. I can save my vacation days. Since I am not traveling this weekend, I do not have to try getting off work by using vacation days or getting someone else to work for me. I can use those vacation days for a different time.

7. I can spend quality time with my family. I don't like being away from them for very long. We can enjoy each other's company.

8. I'm going to do fun stuff with friends and family without spending a huge fortune. I won't have to worry about funds or coming up with the money to do something that costs more than my monthly entertainment budget.

9. I can get a much needed haircut. I've been waiting a while to get a couple inches of locks cut off and I get to do that this afternoon. I'm ready for a new 'do.

10. I can start shopping for school supplies. There's lots of great deals going on right now. With six kids, it's important I get the supplies while they're on sale.

PurpleTrail Review & Giveaway 8/1

One of my first posts on my blog was At What Age Do You Stop Celebrating Birthdays? I posted about it because I come from a rather large family that celebrates birthdays, no matter what the age. PlumbPretty Review & Giveway 7/29

I have the pleasure of personally knowing Tina of the Etsy shop, PlumbPretty. When she is not busy working a full-time job or planning for a wedding, she is hard at work making beautiful jewelry, great smelling soap, and other handmade items.

I recently had a conversation with Tina about her Etsy Shop, PlumbPretty, and found out a little more about her craftiness.

Heck Of A Bunch: What materials do you use for your products?
PlumbPretty: I up-cycle game pieces, decoupage designs from magazines, use glass beads, and work with wire for some of my pieces. I started making the soap for my fiancee who has really sensitive dry skin.
Heck Of A Bunch: What are some things that inspire you?
PlumbPretty: Nature, friends, other artists
Heck Of A Bunch: How long have you had your shop on Etsy?
PlumbPretty: I've had my shop open for 3 months now.
Heck Of A Bunch: Is this a job for you or a hobby?
PlumbPretty: It's a hobby. Crafting is a really great stress reliever for me!
Heck Of A Bunch: How did you get into your craft?
PlumbPretty: My mom used to own a craft store and, before that, it seems like we were always going to craft shows or she was asking me to help her make something. My first craft I ever sold was dolls I made out of mops!
Heck Of A Bunch: Do you have any advice for fellow Etsy shop owners?
PlumbPretty: I'm still pretty new....but I'd say take good pictures of your product and get the word out as much as possible.



I've had the opportunity to try out some soap that PlumbPretty has made. I've tried the Handmade Coconut and Tangerine Scented Soap. The smell is great, and I like how well the soap cleans. The designs are cute as well. All of the soaps are made to order so that you get the freshest product possible.

Blog Hop - 3 Things You Didn't Know About Me

1. I am fairly proficient at spelling words ....backwards. I've always been obsessed with spelling (grammar, not so much). Most words I can spell backwards with great speed. People are amazed when I blurt out the ABC's backwards in record time.

2. I married the same man twice. My first husband and I didn't use common sense to stay away from each other when we got divorced the first time. We married each other again only to have it fail once again. May work for some, but I don't recommend it.

3. My gag reflexes go into full force when I accidentally bite into a piece of fat from meat. I cannot stand meat fat and I'll tear a piece of meat up just to make sure I don't get any of the fat in my mouth.

Two Kiddos, Another Year Older

Two of my kiddos are another year older. My step-daughter Emma turned 7 and my son, Logan, turned 11. We held a joint birthday party for them over the weekend at our camper. We celebrated with a cookout and swimming. The kids received lots of great gifts and we had a wonderful time visiting with each other.

Logan is very much a momma's boy and looks to me for direction and affection. I do not look forward to the day when he decides that it's not cool to depend so much on his mom. He recently took on a Hot Wheels obsession, but not to play with. He wants them to collect, even if they're not worth anything. Logan never has been one to play with toys much. He likes to stack them, put them in order, and collect them. He's always been this way. When he was younger, he was diagnosed with OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) and sensory integration disorder. A couple years of therapy have helped this and he is growing into a fine young man. Happy 11th birthday to my "ogie-bear".


Although Emma is my step-daughter, I've known her since the day she was born. She and I have a great bond and I'm thankful her biological mother has allowed me and Emma to form a special relationship. Emma is a huge Hannah Montana fan and is now into all things monkey. She is a tomboy and is not afraid to rough it.

Blog Hop - Favorite Photo 7/7/09

I come from a family of rabid picture takers. We don't consider ourselves professionals in any way, but we love to take photos. Even the little ones know to say cheese when the cameras come out. We love to capture memories, events, and emotions.

This photo is one of my favorites. It is of my 15 yo daughter and 14 yo step-daughter. They became sisters almost seven years ago. The whole blended family thing was rocky at first, but it's come together with just a few unraveled threads. Even though they're joined by marriage, the two girls share an unconditional bond that only sisters can have.

Happy Birthday America

How you will be celebrating your Fourth of July weekend? For the first time in five years, I don't have to work during the 4th of July. Yay!! My family and I will be staying at our camper over the weekend at the local campground. We plan on swimming, feasting, watching fireworks, and dancing to live music.


Whatever you do, please stay safe and take the time to remember what the 4th of July is all about. Here are a few general tips on how to have a safe 4th of July:

1. If you plan on swimming, do not enter the water alone unless a lifeguard is on duty. Most deaths from drowning occur within a few feet of safety.
2. West Nile is a threat to some, including those where I live. Wear shoes and socks, long pants, and a long sleeved shirt if you're going to be outdoors where mosquitos are.
3. Know what's legal and what's not. It is illegal to have most types of fireworks in Illinois. No need to get yourself in trouble.
4. Don't expect your pets to enjoy the celebration. July 5th is the year's busiest day for animal shelters because most outside pets tend to get the heck out of dodge when the big boom starts going off. It's best to let your outside pets go inside, even to a garage, during the fireworks. It will lessen the scare.
5. Fourth of July = celebration = alcohol. If you plan on drinking, please have a plan on where you will be staying. Please don't drink and drive. Not only is it dangerous and potentially deadly, it can be expensive. I doubt anyone wants to pay the highly expensive DUI fees. It's just not worth it.
6. If you make a mess, clean it up. It's not that hard to pick up your trash and put it in a nearby trash can or take it with you and throw it away at a later time. Litter all over the ground at any time, but especially after a large crowd, makes a place look downright trashy.
7. Fireworks are F -U -N but remember that they are hazardous as well. Use all safety precautions and procedures when lighting fireworks. Don't stand close to them.
