Money Savvy Pig Bank Review & Giveaway - 9/25

We all know how hard-hitting the economy has been. More and more people are learning to budget, cut corners, and save money. It is equally important that children learn these lessons and appreciate the value of a dollar. Money Savvy Generation is dedicated to helping children learn money management behavior before bad habits set in.

One product that Money Savvy Generation offers to help children with their spending is the Money Savvy Pig. I have received one and let my youngest son use it. It is shaped just like your ordinary piggy bank, but it offers so much more. The Money Savvy Pig piggy bank has four chambers which are marked with SAVE, SPEND, DONATE, and INVEST. Each chamber exits through a different foot so the money does not get mixed up. Now when my son receives his allowance or extra money from others, he can control what amount he puts in what chamber and can see what a difference is money is making. He's excited to see that he has money saved up in the bank to go towards a future purchase, he has money in the bank he can spend now, he has money he invests for the future, and he has money that he's donating to a local cause. In addition, the bank comes with a sheet of goal setting stickers to help kids track the goal for each of their money choices.

A Twitter campaign is going on right now through Money Savvy Generation. You have the opportunity to win a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and a custom Recommended Reading List for the children in your life. As well, you have the opportunity to win an entire Classroom Solution for the child in your life. To be entered into the drawing for the Twitter campaign, follow @susanbeacham on Twitter and send a tweet with the hashtag #MoneySavvyPig.

I liked Susan's suggestion about reducing allowances during a recession. (Hopefully the kids will volunteer for this!)
